Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a speech writer. Feminist Frequency is a web site that hosts videos and commentaries looking at the portrayals of female characters in popular media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that investigates representations of women in narratives from popular culture. Alongside working to bring awareness to sexual harassment and attack on women and as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Alongside being an acclaimed public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while studying at the University. An ambitious woman who wanted to start a web-series examining the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an online campaign. Her determination was not slowed by the assault, in fact it only reinforced her desire to become an expert on media and feminism. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit focused on the portrayal of women in popular culture narratives.
