When she was initially inspired from the shadows that she observed on the grass of trees, she worked for months to develop a technique which didn't depict an object as a two-dimensional picture. In this way, the selected subject is transformed into a representation of the subject. This is particularly true when using living items or those that will perish like fruit or human beings. Alexa's style of painting has an ephemeral quality, the only thing remaining of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Photographs and painting are coordinated to create an unflattering two-dimensional space that is a trompe l'oeil. Certain places three dimensions are visible, like near the eye or the hair. Occasionally, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D environment around them, which allows the models to be part of their own self-created environment. This is a way of breaking down the barriers between painting, photography, performances and installations.
